

Using Automatic Light Sensors
Overview
When designing a lighting system, there are always some light switches that do not need to be part of the home automation system. These lights include closet lights, butler pantry light, pantry lights, even toilet room or bathroom. By not adding these lights into the system, you can save a lot of money. But what if you do? There is an alternative which are automatic light sensors.
These light switches or dimmers have the sensor on the light switch itself. Walk into a room, it will sense light, and the light turns on. No need for motion sensors and additional programming to turn on the lights. These are great for rooms that can “see” motion while you are in that room such as pantries, toilet rooms, and even some closets. And they can even save you money but automatically turning off the light once it no longer senses motion. For more information, check out my website.

Cons
The problem with these switches is that they do not include any energy information. So if you want to track energy usages, these switches do not have that capability
They also can false trigger. For example, I have a light switch facing a microwave with a glass front. E very titmheer e is a reflection, it can trigger the light switch. But there is a solution. By adding some tape to the front of the sensor, you can prevent the reflection from triggering the light switch.
